IST 110 - INFORMATION, PEOPLE AND TECHNOLOGY (3)
Course Description: The use, analysis and design of information systems and technologies to organize, coordinate, and inform human enterprises.
IST 110 was split into three facets. In each of these sections, we studied one of the following topics and its relation to the modern technological age: Information, People, and Technology. For three five-week periods, we concentrated our studies on a particular focus; and in the final two weeks of the course, we studied the relationship between these facets. IST 110 was taught both independently and in small groups. Generally, we would independently evaluate a technology before class, then work with a group to evaluate that same technology in class.
IST 110 taught me the basics of Information Technology and about technology's role in sharing information between individuals. It was a great introduction to Information Technology because I studied several markets of IT and expanded my own skill set.

CSE 103 - INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUES (4)
Course Description: Design and implementation of algorithms. Structured programming. Problem solving techniques. Introduction to a high-level, block-structured language, including arrays, procedures, parameters, and recursion.
CSE 103, an introductory C++ course, was the first course in my pursuit of a Computer Science, B.S. The course was comprised of lectures, eleven labs (simple programs demonstrating a concept that had been taught in class), homework assignments (complex programs using cumulative lessons), and three exams. I wrote many programs while exploring concepts such as I/O Stream, control structures, user-defined functions, arrays, data abstraction, inheritance, overloading, and recursion.
CSE 103 taught me programming technique/theory, and it helped me to fine tune my programming skills. Through CSE 103, I learned that I was better than most entry-level Computer Science majors at Penn State.
